Syrah is produced from the selection of the best batches of Syrah from that year, thus composing a final batch that aged for 16 months in French oak (50%) and American oak (50%) barrels.
Dark violet in color, it presents intense notes of black fruits. A round wine, with a firm and persistent structure. Lush nose with mentholated notes, ending with notes of toasted almonds from the barrel.
Located at the foot of Serra D’Ossa, just 35km north of Évora, Herdade da Maroteira is a 152ha property that has belonged to the same Anglo-Portuguese family for 5 generations, since the mid-19th century. At that time, Robert Reynolds invested in the Alentejo cork oak forest to satisfy the needs of the Port Wine industry in the north of Portugal.
For around 150 years, in addition to cork, the estate mainly produced cattle and some olives. In 2000, Philip Mollet, current owner and manager, revolutionized the farm's strategy and planted vineyards. The chosen Syrah grape variety proved to be a huge success in the form of the globally acclaimed Cem Reis wine. Later, a charming selection of reds, whites and rosés resulted from the planting of Alicante Bouschet, Aragonêz and Touriga Nacional vineyards in an open valley.
